Bill McGlashan is a businessman and investor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has established several companies and investment funds, including TPG Growth, the growth equity investment arm of TPG; The Rise Fund, the largest impact investing fund of its time to be raised; and Y Analytics, a public benefit corporation aimed at bridging the gap between research and capital allocation. In total, McGlashan has spent over three decades working in private equity and executive leadership, and has been a board member for over 30 companies and charities. He has twice appeared on Vanity Fair’s “New Establishment List,” an annual exploration of powerful players who are reshaping the world, and has also been named “Game Changer of the Year” by Private Equity International.
McGlashan's early career entailed a fusion of investment work and company formation. He held a senior associate position at the alternative investment firm Bain Capital and Information Partners, and later took on one of his first executive roles as CEO at one of the firm’s struggling startups. Other prominent milestones in investment include serving as CEO of the venture firm Vectis Group LLC, co-founder and CEO of the private investment management firm Generation Ventures, and as a venture partner at Whitney & Co. In 1994, McGlashan co-founded Pharmanex, a dietary supplement company, and as its president, he spearheaded its expansion into one of the nation's largest in the industry. Four years later, it was sold for $125 million.
Other notable business ventures he has launched include STX Entertainment, an American film and television studio launched in 2014 with producer Robert Simonds, and Evolution Media Capital, a merchant bank that offers M&A advisory, industry research, and capital-raising services.
McGlashan has a B.A. from Yale University where he graduated with honors, and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
